ATV Safety Training for Under 16 Riders

What are the legal requirements for my under 16 child to ride atv’s

Any rider under the age of 16 who operates an atv in New Brunswick must be supervised and accompanied by a person 19 years old or older and has successfully completed an approved atv safety training course.

ATV’s that are 2010 and newer must comply with AMSI/SVIA 1-2007 standard for vehicles that will be ridden by a person who is between the ages of 6 and 16. This manufacturing standards will ensure that these atv’s have speed limiters. As follows:

                Category Y 6+ – max speed 16km/h

                Category Y 10+ max speed 24 km/h

                Category Y 12+ max speed 24 km/h

Category T (transition models for teens between 14 to 16 years old) 32 km/h
